Initial funding again came from WNC and the BME, Hope and CYP Networks helped with publicity, planning and facilitating the event. ‘Changes' facilitators were used to help with planning and the follow-up report and to facilitate at the event.

The event took the form of a half day conference held at the Newhampton Arts Centre on 7th July and included speakers, entertainment and round table discussions around the theme of the Gender Equality Duty.

The speakers were Kath Rees, CEO of the Haven and a WOW Steering Group member, Elvira Wilson, Chair of WOW, Esther Stanford-Xosei from the Women's Resource Centre, London and Jo Lancaster, Assistant Chief Executive, Wolverhampton Council. In addition there was a drama performance from the African Women of Substance and a fashion show from the African Women's Association.

The round table discussions focussed on gender equality in the realms of employment, income, education, caring and domestic duties, community and personal safety and political women. In addition women used flip charts to record thoughts on what life would be like for men and women if there was real gender equality.

The event is to be followed up with a report on the event including the round table discussions and setting out recommendations for the way forward.

Other follow up events are also planned and anyone interested should contact WOW for details.
