Our hidden past – fascinating tales of ordinary women

Print Friendly

The Way We Are Project has brought together different generations to find out about the changing lives of women in the city.  We have recorded women from 60 to 101 talking about their working and domestic lives. Young interviewers discovered that Wolverhampton was buzzing in the 40’s and 50’s with dance halls, cinemas and theatres providing escape from war work and worry. Changing job roles and domestic lives; building the ring road and Mander Centre all come to life when heard from the lips of the women who lived through the times.

There is still time to get involved. You can learn new skills by taking part in workshops on interviewing skills, recording and summarising. Find out more about the social history of Wolverhampton and help carry out research at Wolverhampton Archive. Use and improve design and writing skills contributing to an exhibition and information pack showcasing the projects results.
